Welcome to the donation guidelines page for members of the Directors Guild of Canada.

After reviewing these guidelines, please return to the donation page to complete the donation form.

Thank you!

Donating is Simple

Step 1: Go home and fill a reusable shopping bag with all those phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, monitors and network devices. No medical or personal devices, auto parts or appliances please!

Step 2: Come down to the DGC Hub between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday and look for the reBOOT Canada treasure chest.

Step 3: Get a piece of masking tape from reception and attach your last name and date to the items you’re donating.

Step 4: Place the items in the reBOOT Canada treasure chest and take a good picture of your items.

Step 5: Come back to this page to enter your contact information in the form at the bottom, and upload the picture(s) of your donation. There is a QR code near the reBOOT Canada treasure chest that you can scan to make coming back here easy.

Step 6: Keep your reusable shopping bag and have a great day knowing you’ve gained some space at home, your donation is secure, and you’ve helped low-income families across the country access basic technology.

Step 7: A tax-deductible receipt for the fair market value of your donation will be emailed to you within 90 days of our receiving your equipment.

How to Prepare Your Items

Back up all of your personal data before donating any item. We sanitize every device for your protection and cannot retrieve lost data.

When possible, please include all chargers, adapter cables, and required accessories originally sold with each device.

Disable “Find my iPhone” on Apple products or “Find my Device” on Android devices.

Disable Bitlocker encryption on newer Windows devices.

Reset any Apple and Android devices, remove iCloud/Gmail accounts and any other password restrictions before donating.

Make sure that any other type of lock (BIOS firmware passwords, physical seals and locks that prevent servicing the device, etc.) has been removed, or include the passwords and keys.

Devices that are locked down in any of the ways mentioned above are not reusable, and can only be recycled.

Besides missing an opportunity to help someone in need, this may reduce the fair market valuation assessed for the device.

What Happens to Donated Items

By giving new life to old tech, we help open up a world of endless opportunities, and create connections that make a difference for Canadians facing challenges.

All items that contain data storage/memory are securely wiped to remove all stored data.

Once the data sanitization is complete, devices will be refurbished and redeployed or recycled responsibly on site to be reintroduced into the supply chain.

Our partnership with Quantum Lifecycle Partners allows our charity to focus on delivering impactful programs and provide the highest level of service and security to our donors.

Certificates of Data Destruction will be issued if requested. Please note that a charge of $12 (taxes included) will apply for each drive. Special pricing may apply for batches of greater than 10 drives. Please contact info@rebootcanada.ca for details.
