After a process that started in July of 2022, we are excited to announce the opening of our Vancouver branch, serving the Greater Vancouver Area and Western Canada.
We look forward to supporting the Vancouver community, extending our work advancing digital equity and responsible disposition of IT hardware.
Led by Hsing-Lei (Steve) Lee, former assistant manager at Free Geek Vancouver, reBOOT Canada’s West Coast office will provide access to dependable, warrantied and supported low-cost refurbished laptops and desktops to individuals living with low-income and local community-facing organizations serving them.
“It’s been a great process getting to know the reBOOT Canada team and being part of the set-up from the very beginning. I’m really looking forward to helping out my neighbours and growing with the organization in Vancouver. It’s a steep learning curve but I’m confident that together we will overcome the challenges ahead.”
A step in the evolution of our operating model, reBOOT Canada welcomes Vancouver residents’ donations of laptops, desktops, and monitors by appointment at our office at 823 Powell Street. Larger donations will be accepted at our partner location in Surrey. According to Francisco Rota, Executive Director:
“The pandemic has taught us how to make the most of our space and resources, out of necessity we became more proactive in managing what we’re able to accept and directing donations to the depot best suited to handle them, taking into consideration our clients and donors”.
Businesses and organizations can donate any volume of devices and may be eligible for pick up at no charge. As always, data security is a top priority, and your privacy is ensured. Find more information at rebootcanada.ca/donate and simply complete the form, book your appointment and we will take care of the rest.
Thank you to staff and the board of directors at Free Geek Vancouver for your support and experience and congratulations on the many years of community-building and environmental stewardship. It is a respected legacy and one we look forward to preserving and building upon. Steve had some thoughts on the matter:
“Building on the experiences from Free Geek Vancouver, reBOOT Canada is perfectly poised to continue the important work on promoting sustainable computing…Beyond that, perhaps more vitally, I expect to be able to provide tech access to more under-privileged communities in greater Vancouver region and beyond through our proven programs.”
