On Thursday May 27, the Brick Works played host to the HSBC-Evergreen Youth Action Series 2017 (Toronto), held in partnership with the Toronto Youth Environment Council. As part of a larger national initiative, this annual event brings high school students together for a day of immersive eco-activities designed to encourage action in future sustainability initiatives.
reBOOT Canada was invited to participate, and took the opportunity to present successive student groups with a brief introduction to the reBOOT story, including an appreciation for how much things have changed since our inception, over 22 years ago. Students were then broken into smaller groups, for a hands-on opportunity to tear-down/build-up a donated computer. Tech-savvy students were quick to enlighten any inquisitive (albeit, less tech-familiar) peers, sharing their knowledge while intrinsically fostering a sense of community within the groups. This exercise gave students a brief peek at what coop opportunities at reBOOT can entail, as well as a greater appreciation for how factors in sustainability drive reBOOT Canada’s efforts.
reBOOT Canada is pleased to have contributed to the Youth Action Series 2017 endeavour. Based on the enthusiasm exhibited by the students, the next generation of sustainability-champions are poised to take action!
