Last fall, we launched a search for a community organization, social enterprise or small business with street level storefront access in order to provide free internet wi fi to visitors and travellers in the vicinity.
We're very happy to be working with Parkdale Activity-Recreation Centre and Parkdale Community Legal Services to move on to the implementation stage.
In the coming weeks, reBOOT Canada (www.rebootcanada.ca), PARC (www.parc.on.ca) and PCLS (www.parkdalelegal.org) will be launching the first reBOOT reLAY Neighbourhood Network hotspot from the PARC and PCLS facilities at 1499 Queen St. West and 1266 Queen St. West respectively.
The goal is to have free wi fi coverage along Queen Street West between Sorauren and the Dufferin area, for use by the public, in order to see what if any impact free access to the internet has on members of the community and assess opportunities for expansion and replication. Discussions are ongoing with other Parkdale organizations and more information on those developments will be shared once available.
The hot-spots are expected to be live by the end of June, 2016.
We sincerely appreciate the cooperation and support of PARC and PCLS and their commitment to this pilot . We also look forward to fine tuning and expanding the network and hopefully growing it to serve more of the community.
