As we enter the fall - and midpoint of our fiscal year - the reBOOT Canada team would like recognize and sincerely thank all of the conscientious donors who have contributed close to 10,000 electronic devices so far; just over twice as much as the same time last year.
These donations – coming from government institutions, national corporations, municipalities, small and medium enterprises, basements and garages all over the country – are what make reBOOT Canada’s programs possible and drive their growth. From used cell phones to data centre refreshes – our list of acceptable donations continues to grow and reflect the prevailing IT hardware landscape. Our capabilities and offerings have also grown to include on-site data erasure as part of a donation or stand-alone service.
So far this year, the reSTART program has distributed over 200 refurbished laptops and desktops to individuals on social assistance and we’re expecting the demand to grow dramatically in the coming months. Over 15,000 Toronto Parkdale residents are in range of our reBOOT reLAY free Wi-Fi hotspot network and hundreds of them actually access it every day, transferring 200 GB of free data so far. We hope to upgrade coverage on the west end of the network this fall. We’re also looking forward to working with Indigenous communities in Ontario this year to bring our Youth Tool Kit reBOOT Camp to youth there, collaborating with excellent organizations to do so. If you live in an Aboriginal community in Ontario, we would like to connect with you.
While our team works to find creative ways to refurbish, repair or monetize your donation, we take a moment here to remember and appreciate where those donations have come from and the responsibility and trust you’ve placed with reBOOT Canada to protect the environment, protect any residual data on the devices and to do something meaningful with them. So to you donors – some of whom have been working with reBOOT Canada for over a decade – thank you!
